Workshops in 2005-07

  • Practical Medicinal Chemistry Workshop Dec. 17 & 18, 2007 presented by Dr. Lester Mitscher.
  • Informatics Workshop - Aug. 13, 2007 “Chemical Informatics Methods Applied to In Silico Prescreening” by Dr. Gerald Lushington.
  • Grant Writing Workshop 2006 - The invitation only workshop began on June 29, 2006 with an introductory seminar and participants selected from this invited group then worked to the conclusion of the workshop by January 29, 2007 to prepare an NIH R01 application. This workshop was not simply an afternoon presentation about grant applications, but a true workshop in which, over the course of several months, each participant produced a complete, ready-to-submit, NIH R01 grant application. Participants were shown how to organize and communicate their research ideas more clearly and more effectively. This process inevitably lead to better-formulated ideas, better writing skills, better proposals and higher overall success rates. An excellent workbook that interprets and elucidates the brief instructions in the NIH application packet was used to guide the writers as the proposal developed. Past participants have been very impressed with how much this workshop has improved their proposal writing skills and their success rates with grant applications. Dr. David Morrison of Grant Central lead the workshop which focused on the critique of the grant works-in-progress. This is part of COBRE CCET's career development efforts for its PIs.
  • Drug Design Seminar 2006 - Drug Design Class (two days) December 21 - 22, 2006; taught by Lester Mitscher, University Distinguished Professor, Dept. of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Kansas
  • Combinatorial Chemistry Workshop 2006 - The COBRE CCET sponsored a IRORI Solid-phase Organic Chemistry (SPOC) Course at the University of Kansas the week of May 22-26, 2006. The instructor was Tom Beattie, and there were numerous guest lecturers as well. The workshop took place at KU's Life Sciences Research Laboratories at 15th and Wakarusa in west Lawrence.
  • Combinatorial Chemistry Workshop 2005 - The COBRE CCET sponsored a Combinatorial Chemistry Workshop in the week of June 20-24, 2005. The instructor was Tom Beattie, and there were numerous guest lecturers as well. The workshop took place at KU's Life Sciences Research Laboratories at 15th and Wakarusa in west Lawrence.
  • Grant Writing Workshop 2005 - The COBRE CCET co-sponsored a grant writing workshop with Dr. Robert Hanzlik's COBRE for Protein Structure and Function. The workshop began in June 2005 and was completed in February 2006 with the completion and submission of the grant's applications to the NIH. Dr. David Morrison of Grant Central lead the workshop which focuses on the critique of the grant works-in-progress. This is part of COBRE CCET's career development efforts for its PIs.
